Al Gore’s eco-concert peaked with just 4.5 million viewers on Saturday night. This of course had quite a lot to do with the weather, the sun coming out just in time for the concert about global warming.

But what is it about a Diana concert that makes 15 million people tune in, but a concert to save the world gets less than 5 million?

In 1985 Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited the USA. During this trip a gala dinner was held for them in Washington, hosted by President Reagan and his wife Nancy. The dinner featured entertainment celebrities, which would have been ex film-star Ronald Reagan’s way of hosting an event such as this.

There are numerous books that discuss her great efforts in the AIDS situation, drug abuse, land mine efforts, poverty, and homelessness. She never stopped bringing attention to the world’s problems and offering solutions through her charity work even after she was no longer the Princess.

Q. Why do you think the story of a divorced British princess remains so captivating to Americans?

A. Diana’s story is really as a mythic as a Grimm’s fairy story. It is far more than simply being a divorced princess. She was young, beautiful and innocent and found that life behind palace walls was a mesh of lies, intrigue and sexual cynicism. But she refused to let those palace walls contain her and sublimated her pain to become a global force for good.

Viewers complained after two commercials for an undertaker and road safety campaign followed a performance in which rap artist P Diddy had dedicated his appearance to the late Princess of Wales.

Diddy’s set ended with an ad break that opened with a promotion for White Lady Funerals, with the slogan “a woman’s understanding from very special women”.

Elton launched a tirade at traffic police after they told him to get out of his chauffeur-driven car and walk the short distance to the VIP backstage area as part of tough security measures following the terrorism scares.

“Get out of my @#$!ing way,” he reportedly said. “Don’t you know who I am? I’ve been working all @#$!ing day and I need to get to my @#$!ing dressing room.”

No matter what I do, I always want to go to refugee camps and meet with the most unfortunate. I have found it a privilege- a way of making me feel alive.”

The Diana tribute special featured big names in the music business and averaged 8.7 million viewers as well as a 2.1 rating/7 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates released Monday by Nielsen Media Research.

63,000 filled Wembley Stadium to see an international lineup pay tribute to Britain’s Princess Diana at a memorial charity concert 10 years after her death, on what would have been her 46th birthday. The six-hour show spanned generations of performers, from veterans Elton John, who opened the show with ”Your Song” and Tom Jones (covering the Arctic Monkeys’ ”I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor”) to contemporary pop stars including Kanye West, backed by an all-female string section, a DJ, and red-clad dancers, Fergie, and P. Diddy, performing ”I’ll Be Missing You.”

Elton John, a friend of the princess who sang at her funeral, kicked off the show with “Your Song” in front of giant black and white photographs of Diana taken by Mario Testino that were beamed on to the stage backdrop.

He was followed by veterans Duran Duran, Status Quo, Bryan Ferry, younger acts The Feeling, Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, Orson, Lily Allen and U.S. rapper Pharrell Williams as well as The English National Ballet, a favorite of Diana’s.

Tonight, her two sons are helping stage a benefit concert in her behalf. Proceeds from the concert will go to charities supported by the late Princess, and to charities of which the Princes are Patrons.

According to London’s Sunday Mirror, the young royals will cohost the one-off gig at the soon-to-reopen Wembley Stadium, allowing more than 90,000 revelers to share in the “upbeat” celebration—and benefit—in honor of the princess.

Proceeds from the massive to-do will be doled out to several charities—most likely including the homeless charity Centrepoint, which Diana worked closely with prior to her 1997 death, and William’s recently founded African conservation charity, Tusk Trust.

ITEM: In July, 1996, Amschel Rothschild was murdered, just as he was about to become the new head of the Rothschild worldwide banking empire, tied to the Vatican. Most of the American press were silent: some said it was a heart attack; others, a suicide. He was found with a bathroom cord tied around his neck, connected to a towel rack.
